Historic Route 66, also known as the Mother Road or Main Street of America, was a US highway from 1926 to 1985. Route 66 runs through eight U.S. states, from Chicago Illinois to Los Angeles (Santa Monica), California. Heading diagonally across the state between Chicago and St. Louis, what remains of Route 66 is a surprisingly rural cruise through endless fields of corn.Despite the urban conglomerations at both ends, for most of its nearly 300-mile trek here, Route 66 and its modern usurper, I-55, pass along flat prairies with nary a smokestack or skyscraper as far as the eye can see. For both directions of traffic: (A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the westernmost intersection with Route NJ 33 and the Tinton Falls Borough-Neptune Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.66); thence All east lanes are closed.
